Do you think this thing my husband does is sick?….?

I’ll first describe him.. he’s a redneck from Georgia with all sorts of backwoods ways, but the number one thing I have the most trouble is ability to forgive people and still hang out with them. I’m not the most upstanding ( i have a lot of hillbilly ways) (I was raised in a rural area of Illinois). I still believe that what he does is just WRONG! Her’s the deal… our ex’s both left us for other persons and did us wrong constantly throughout 10 year+ marriages). He let’s my ex-husband work for him, occationally invites both ex’s over to BBQ, too. He don’t mind at all doubling up for kids b-day’s, ect..We’ve even babysit his ex-wifes new baby! All this bothers me so badly! I can’t get him to stop. Am I a-hole or do I have a right to feel this way? I don’t think you should hang out with your ex’s. It makes me relive all the pain by having them near. He says he keeps good relations for the kids. What do you think?

This isn’t a redneck or backwoods issue. It seems to be more of a personality type issue. You have a personality where you prefer not to be around your ex and for your partner’s ex to not be around. He, on the other hand, has little to no problem with it and can carry on his life still interacting with exes. I think it is completely normal and natural to be both ways. I am no longer friends with my ex after a nasty falling out, but my wife has received an apology from her ex after their bad break-up, so we speak to him when we see him sometimes. There are other exes she would never speak to and others of mine I might consider speaking with. We have friends who never see exes again and other friends in our same social circle who still hang out with exes and even date the exes of their friends. Different strokes, different folks.

What you and your husband probably need is a compromise. Hopefully both of you can be satisfied with the results. I really think it might benefit you both to move away to a different area where you are exposed to new groups of people and your exes become fading memories of the past.
