How to cook a steak at home?
Can someone teach me how to cook a mean steak at home using my stove? It’s a regular ol’ gas stove with an oven, if it makes a difference (not electric).
I can make steaks using a BBQ grill, but I’m in the Northeast where it’s too cold to make steaks outside. And it’s nighttime, neighbors will be like, wtf. Well, maybe for another day, like next week, lol.
Anyway, what are techniques, spices, pots or pans, or trays? cooking methods? Plz help. I are hungree.

Broiling is great and it’s a lot less messy than cooking a steak on the stove top. This method is especially good for steaks because they acquire a crisp, brown crust. The best thing to use would be a broiler pan but if you don’t have one you could use a baking rack on a cookie sheet. actually any pan will do but if you don’t have the meat elevated the fat can pool around the meat and it can burn around the edges. The best method of regulating the cooking when you broil is to adjust the placement of the pan. The farther the steak is from the heat, the more slowly it will cook. For a thick steak, start cooking the meat close to the heat so that its surface is about two inches away, and leave it there until it is nicely browned on both sides. Then adjust the distance of the pan farther from the heat to finish the cooking. Thinner steaks can be cooked three inches from the heat and will probably be done by the time they have browned on both sides.
Be sure to not pierce your steak or else some of the juices will escape. Another thing is that after it comes out of the oven let it sit for a few minutes (10-15) to rest. You can tent some foil over it to keep it warm if you like. It is important to do this because after the steak cooks the juices have to have a chance to redistribute themselves through the meat. If you cut into it too soon, you end up with a dry steak in a pool of juices. Not good.
