Gas Grill Smoker
Mobile grilling requirements or permits?
I live in Atlanta, GA and I’ve been thinking about cooking for people on the weekends. I’m sure everybody has seen at some point in time, people in gas station parking lots with big grills or smokers. I’m curious, if anybody has any insight as to what the requirements or permits (if any) there are for this. Any information would be extremely helpful.

You must have a privilege license from the state of GA. In order to get this, you must show proof of liability insurance (in case someone gets sick from your food.) Also, it costs about $150 initially and $50 per year after. However, you could work for an established business, essentially as a contractor working on their property, and avoid the privilege license. You will, however, still need to contact the health department, which in GA is run county by county. When i did catering, i had to contact the health dpt if i set a kitchen up in another county. Normally, they didn’t inspect, but they can shut you down and fine you if they choose. Contact your local chamber of commerce. They should be able to help you navigate the legal mumbo jumbo.
By the way, don’t go into this thinking you will make a bunch of money. But it is a fun way to spend the weekend and make a little something extra. The equipment you will need is not cheep.
