Grilling barbeque chicken?
Do I put the BBQ sauce on right away, or do I have to grill it for awhile first? How long? Thanks!
The answers given are correct. There’s too much sugar in most bbq sauces to add before putting the chicken on the grill.
One thing I’ve done in the past to good effect though, is to make two sauces. One is basically the spicy sauce, with no sugar. Marinate the chicken in that for about 30 minutes before cooking. Then also prepare a glaze that is only slightly spicy, but much sweeter than you’d normally make bbq sauce. Slather that on for the last minute or two of grilling.
