Make Meat Smoker
can you make jerky in a bbq/smoker? (deer meat?)?
My bro gave me some meat from a buck he shot which I had intended to make into jerky for my husband for christmas. I can’t now because he isn’t gone long enough to make it and make the house un-jerky-smelling so he won’t know. I can take it over to my dads for cooking without getting caught, but his oven is nasty. His smoker on the other hand is always in tip top condition. so could I prep meat for jerky and slow smoke it? Would it get cooked/preserved properly that way?
The key to this is that jerky is dried, not cooked. However, in the attached reference, I found that you could used a cooker at 150 degrees F. It also points out that it is a time consuming process, so I think if you’re in a hurry, it’s not a good idea.
