How do you boot a brand new motherboard with some old parts?
I recently purchased a new Gigabyte P35-DS3R motherboard, ram, cpu, power supply, and case. I am using my dvd drive and hard drive from my old computer.
When I turn the computer on, the Gigabyte screen pops up with these options:
BIOS Setup
After that it goes to a black screen with some specs. At the bottom of the screen it says “Boot from CD/DVD:”
After about 10 or 15 seconds it says “press any key to startup XpressRecovery2…”
Does anyone know what I need to do to boot my computer?
You have different chipsets on your new board and if you try to boot onto the hard drive out of your old computer without reformatting it and reinstalling windows it doesn’t work most of the time. The northbridge and southbridge, to name a couple, are different than what your hard drive is programmed to run with so its a no-go.
