Outdoor Barbecue Grill
Royal Oak Outdoor 30″ Deluxe Charcoal Barbecue Grill?
Has anyone used this grill before or know anyone that has it. Only serious people please. I am just curious if its a good grill to buy or not.
I don’t have any direct experience grilling on this particular grill but it looks as if it has about the capacity for the same number of grilling items as a number of Weber charcoal grill models (18″-22″). Unlike the Weber grills (or many other similar models), it appears that you adjust the cooking temperature on the Royal Oak by raising and lowering the fire, which would probably be fine as you get familiar with cooking on the grill.
If you’re planning on grilling things like steaks, burgers, pork chops, etc. most recipies recommend a direct medium fire (350°F to 375°F or a 4 second hand count according to the cookout calculator at charcoalbob.com). Most recipies for things like whole chickens, bone-in chicken pieces, etc. recommend an indirect fire (fire on each side with drip pan in the middle). Getting results by adjusting the height of the fire is an interesting idea, but may take a little practice.
The direct medium fire grilling method should work fine with the Royal Oak. For these types of items we also use the cookout calculator at charcoalbob.com. Enter the details of the items to be grilled such as cut, thickness and the doneness you want and it will give you instructions for how to grill steaks, boneless chicken breasts, pork chops, etc. It also has grilling tips.
I did a quick look but without success for reviews of the Royal Oak on the web. But if the Royal Oak is available at a store that has other models like Weber, maybe the sales associates will be able to provide additional information, or the web sites of manufacturers who make comparable models might have more information.
