Portable Barbecue Grill
Any recommendations for a new barbecue?
I’m going to buy a new barbecue.
It doesn’t need to be portable, we won’t be taking it camping or anything.
I’m thinking of a gas version this time. We’ve always used real charcoal in the past. Is there any noticeable difference in the taste of the food when you use a gas grill instead of charcoal?
Any suggestions for a make/model?
We’re planning on spending up to $200 but will need it to last a long while if we spend that much
I have to agree with Libbyami…….
When it comes to grilling, barbecuing and smoking foods, if you look at ANY of the major “big BBQ joints”, they’re ALL done with wood/charcoal/chips (for smokiness)………
Gas to me, “tastes like gas”…..and YES, there is a distinct, noticable flavor profile difference in gas vs charcoal…..
I have a Charbroil offset smoker (which can double as a regular grill BBQ) that I can get 4 chickens and 3 racks of ribs on…….it’s indirect heat, and I smoke the meats for about 3 hrs (chicken) and 5 hrs (ribs) but they’re not over ANY fire whatsoever, the heat is chambered through a smoke box where the meat lays and it cooks with the intensity of the heat/smoke…….
The other I have is a Weber kettle grill, a 24 inch one……
Between those two, I have the best of both worlds….I can smoke or BBQ/grill……..
BTW, the LP (liquid propane) tanks that are notorious for running out during cooking is another reason I prefer charcoal to gas. I also keep my gloves, charcoal, charcoal chimney and newspaper (for igniting) in a new, clean sealable trash can (think: the grey solid ones, like the brand name BRUTE from warehouse stores)……..it keeps EVERYTHING dry, bug free and ready for anytime I’m ready to grill……..
If you look at sales at like Home Depot, they have some great prices on pre-season grills/bbq’s…
